It’s January – so you have to make your own good times!
Posted by Robin Leeman-DonovanI’m tired. Full time job and we just moved our office. And I seem to be the official complaint department of every move related issue/problem. I’m cold, years of being in an office that had me wondering where my hot flashes left off and the overworked furnace began and now I’m in a really cool old building that is really really cool – cold even. And then there’s the sub-zero temperature outside which is periodically accompanied by some soggy, messy snow. I’m weary. My new doc has me off my thyroid meds to see what’s really going on – so I’m sleeping when I’m not working. Let’s face it I’m no spring chicken anymore – these things all take their toll. But then I think about the one overriding fact. It’s January.
It’s January so that means things are going to be cold and messy. And I’m going to be tired – post holiday fatigue and a shortness of daylight and sunshine. It’s all a recipe for feeling sluggish and uninspired. So how is this January different from any other? It isn’t. In January you have to find a way to make things tolerable for yourself. Treat yourself. Go out for a nice lunch and have a glass of wine. Plan a great vacation getaway and start to rap your head around what you’ll be doing, wearing, eating, drinking. Focus on getting ready with your fabulous end goal in mind. Maybe visit with an old friend or watch an old movie with a big bowl of popcorn. Whatever it takes it’s going to take you being proactive to keep yourself out of the doldrums. Let’s face it – it’s January!
P.S. For those of you who are rugged outdoor enthusiasts and will read this and label me a giant wimp I have only this to say: “Hey, I love to ski, but I am tired and frozen and the thought of doing all that organizing only to end up skiing down a cold mountain and fighting frostbite is just not tripping my trigger right now. Maybe in March I’ll plan the big ski trip.”
