Communicator Heal Thyself!
Posted by Robin Leeman-DonovanMy business partner approached me a little over a year ago (we own a Marketing/Advertising firm). She said that I was a great resource for women entering menopause because I’d been through it and I wasn’t afraid to offer helpful information in a painless manner. Hell I could even make these women laugh. She reminded me that menopause is a huge avoidance category and that even the most intelligent women wait too long before educating themselves on some critical issues.
Ultimately she talked me into starting a blog and that’s how Menologues was born. In fact she even came up with the name.
Yesterday she told me she was having horrifying hot flashes. As she ran into the elevator she informed me that she was on her way to buy One-A-Day vitamins for menopausal women. Give me strength!
That woman posted many of my initial blog posts on how to deal with hot flashes, etc. Did she read none of them? I was right there – ready to share the full benefit of my vast wealth of self-learned as well as researched knowledge. But no. No time to ask my advice she was running to get her marketing hyped One-A-Day miracle cure.
I would have been hurt but it was so typical. We go to the ends of the earth to find the right solutions for our clients. We are crestfallen when they choose to go in a direction that we know not to be their best possible choice. Nothing short of perfect can be tolerated. And then, when it comes to caring for ourselves, we fall for the marketing hyped easy answer that we can throw some dollars at and walk away expecting miracles. Does it ever work? Not yet but we keep tryin’!
