Sleep Problems. Oh yeah, that’s another menopausal symptom
Posted by Robin Leeman-DonovanSleep Problems. Oh yeah, that’s another menopausal symptom. When you read about menopause you invariably read about the sleeping problems that go with the territory.
Not that I didn’t have my share of sleepless nights peri-peri-peri-menopause, but I never considered myself an insomniac. And I think I know one reason for that. When I was still getting my period I would occasionally have a string of sleepless nights. I found, however, that the onset of my period would exhaust me so thoroughly that I would sleep as though I’d been drugged. It would break the cycle.
Now I’m on my own with no period break (and although I give thanks every day for all of the related unpleasantness with which I am no longer plagued I find myself jumping without a net). I can no longer count on the telltale tightening of the uterus to signal the end of my late night walkabouts. Now I have to meet the prospect of sleeplessness head on.
For a while it was becoming quite a problem. Thank god for my chiropractor! With her suggestion of a combination of 5 HTP and melatonin I was able to bid 3 am good bye – virtually forever! Now don’t get me wrong, last night I had a terrifying nightmare (so much for watching shows about violent murders) and I bolted out of bed wide eyed at 3:30 am. And now and then one of the dogs will have an issue that must be addressed before sun up. But on my own I’m doing very well. And what I really love about my sleep-aids is that they are completely natural and not at all habit forming.
These are supplements that can be purchased virtually anywhere. So give them a try – and pleasant dreams!
